If you would like to learn more about your dishwasher please read
the information below. It will help you to improve the efficiency
of your dishwasher and reduce your utility and repair bills. However
we strongly encourage you DON’T get involved in repairs in
which you are not familiar and that involves working with electrical
or gas components. Unfortunately we have seen some people try it
and it always turns out to be costly. And, most important, it can
put your safety at risk, which cannot be repaired or replaced. Call

DISHWASHER OPERATION
Cleaning and Drying Sequence. The specific steps to be taken after
the racks are loaded with dirty dishes and pushed inside the tub,
and the cleaning aids placed in the dispensers,. To start the dishwasher,
you first close the door and turn or push the latch that seals it.
Then you activate the timer by pressing a button or turning a dial.
Hot water enters at a constant rate through the inlet valve, which
compensates for fluctuations in the household water pressure. When
enough water is in the tub, the valve closes. During the water fill,
the dishwasher motor starts. The motor powers the pump, which forces
water through the wash arms and/or spray tower onto the dishes.
At the proper time, detergent is added to the water automatically.
The pump continuously circulates water within the dishwasher, passing
it through either a filter or a soft food disposer. The filter traps
food particles, and the disposer pulverizes them. Both help prevent
food particles from being redeposit on dishes. When washing is completed,
the pump forces the dirty water out through the drain. Fresh, hot
water then comes in through the water intake for rinsing. The motor
starts, and the pump sends clear water to the wash arms and/or spray
tower. The wash and rinse steps may be repeated, depending on the
model and how the controls are set. As each washing and rinsing
action is completed, the water is again pumped out through the drain.
The dishes are dried by air heated by an electric heating rod or
coil. The hot air either flows past the dishes because of the dishwasher's
construction or is forced past by a blower.
DISHWASHERS CAPACITY
Any dishwasher provides a scrubbing that is hard to duplicate by
hand washing because it uses hotter water and stronger detergents
than hands can stand, and because it provides several washing and
rinsing actions. Nevertheless, dishwashers differ in their capacity,
cleaning ability, and versatility. The capacity of a dishwasher
is the number of dishes, glasses, utensils, knives, forks, and spoons
it can accommodate for a thorough washing. Sometimes capacity is
listed on dishwasher hang tags in terms of place settings. However,
because the definition of a place setting differs among dishwasher
manufacturers, the capacities of different brands may be difficult
to compare.
DISHWASHER CLEANING
The satisfactory performance of a dishwasher depends on four things:
forceful and thorough water action on dishes; the right amount of
detergent dispensed into the water at the proper time; hot wash
and rinse water; and hot air for drying.
Water Action. The simplest dishwashers have a single wash arm at
the bottom of the tub that sprays water upward Some dishwashers
use a spray tower or tube rising upward from the bottom wash arm
to the middle of the dishwasher. Water is forced to the top of the
tower and sprayed sideways from holes. More complex dishwasher models
have several wash arms or a combination of two or more wash arms
and a spray tower. The additional wash arms may be at the top of
the tub for spraying down, between the racks for spraying up, or
at one side for washing flatware
Dispensers. To insure that the water spraying over dishes during
wash and rinse actions has the proper amount of cleaning and/or
rinse agent in it, some dishwashers have cleaning agent and rinsing
agent dispensers.
Detergent. The detergent dispenser is usually on the inside of
the dishwasher door if the dishwasher has only one wash action,
the dispenser may be a single compartment. Wash-water spraying into
the compartment mixes the detergent with the water. If the machine
has repeated wash actions, the dispenser will have separate compartments
for releasing detergent at each wash. One compartment empties as
the first wash begins; the others empty at the start of each succeeding
wash.
Rinse agent. Many dishwashers come equipped with a container on
the inside of the door to hold a liquid rinse agent that helps prevent
spotting by enabling water to flow off dishes in sheets instead
of drops. The container automatically dispenses the proper amount
of agent for the final rinse. If the dishwasher you buy is not equipped
with a rinse agent dispenser, you can buy rinse agent in solid form
and hang it at the top of the upper rack a small amount of the agent
is dissolved each time the water circulates in the dishwasher.
